About

“I shape and support change processes in the creative industries.”

My professional drive is to change the status quo when I see that the status is problematic, conflict-laden, not transparent or unfair. Always in relation to the challenges in the creative industries.

A level playing field is important to me for everyone involved – from artists and innovative teams to top-level managers. This is the basis of my work as a Lawyer, Speaker und Business Coach .

CV

Ama Walton is a lawyer, specialist lawyer for copyright and media law, business mediator, integral business coach and speaker. Her areas of expertise range from global digital licensing law to successful leadership in the creative industries and working with diverse, innovative teams. She has been recognized multiple times by Billboard Magazine as an “International Power Player”, “Top Music Lawyer” and one of the “Women in Music”.

As SVP Music Licensing & Partnership and Deputy General Counsel, she is currently responsible for all digital license agreements at SoundCloud Global Limited & Co. KG on a global level. As part of the management team, she is helping to shape the transformation of the company.

Previously, she was Global General Counsel and CHRO of BMG Rights Management GmbH, after several years as Managing Director of the music companies of Constantin Film AG. Among other things, the Munich native co-produced the musical for the hit film “Fack Ju Göthe”.

How a fairer distribution of income from creative services can be achieved in the long term is something that has preoccupied her since her first experiences as an executive as a senior lawyer and part of the management team at EMI Music Germany GmbH & Co. KG and Virgin Schallplatten GmbH.

As a speaker, Ama Walton speaks on topics relating to digital licensing law and leadership in the creative industries (e.g. at SXSW, MIDEM, Eurosonic) and passes on her knowledge as a lecturer.

Since her training at the Coaching Center Berlin as an integral business coach, Ama Walton has been supporting other managers with challenges. As an experienced negotiator, an expert in cooperative negotiation and conflict resolution and a certified mediator, she consistently combines legal and business topics with leadership issues in her work – in other words, the factual side with the emotional side.

Advisory board mandates

The non-profit Erich Pommer Institut is one of the leading providers of further education and an independent industry think tank in the German and European creative industries. In addition to my role as an advisory board member, I am also active there as a lecturer and second supervisor on the “Digital Media Law and MBA” course.
